Accessibility Statement

Heavenly Crossword Puzzle is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including people with disabilities. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

Accessibility Features

  • Semantic HTML landmarks and proper heading hierarchy
  • Full keyboard navigation throughout the site and crossword grid
  • Visible focus indicators that are never obscured
  • Touch targets with adequate size (minimum 44×44 pixels) and spacing
  • No keyboard traps — you can navigate freely with Tab and Shift+Tab
  • Accessible dialogs and menus with proper focus management
  • Text alternatives for all meaningful imagery
  • Form labels, descriptions, and error messages properly associated with controls
  • Color contrast that meets WCAG 2.2 AA requirements
  • Respect for prefers-reduced-motion — animations are minimized or removed
  • Screen reader-compatible crossword grid with ARIA grid role and cell labels
  • Skip-to-content link for keyboard users
  • High-contrast theme option for users with low vision
  • Large-print puzzle variants with bigger grid cells

Crossword Grid Accessibility

Our interactive crossword grid uses the ARIA grid role pattern. Each cell is labeled with its row, column, and clue number. You can navigate with arrow keys, type letters to fill cells, press Tab to switch between Across and Down directions, and use Backspace to clear a cell.

Theme Options

We offer three visual themes: Light, Dark, and High Contrast. The theme selector is available in the site header. Your preference is saved automatically and persists across visits. We also detect your system's color scheme preference.

Known Limitations

We are continuously improving accessibility. Currently known areas for improvement include:

  • The crossword grid experience may vary across different screen reader software
  • Some complex interactions may benefit from additional ARIA annotations
  • PDF printable versions are not yet available (print via browser print function)
